The RIBBE Charity Ride Training Log – East Providence To Bristol

On a mostly rain soaked morning, I hopped on the East Bay Bike Path to ride what I would call Stage 3 of my upcoming Charity Ride for the RI Community Food Bank. This particular stage starts in East Providence and rides down along the Providence River, past Cranberry Island and Squantum Point, and into Barrington, then Warren, and eventually landing in Bristol. It is about a 14 mile stretch of bike friendly roads that really accentuates life in East Bay – beautiful harbor views, quaint neighborhoods, small businesses, comfortable living. Here are a few photos I took along the way as I rode through puddles and more puddles on the bike path.

When I got to Bristol, I stopped for a moment and noticed a local retail store that had ceramic bowls on display. I remember WJAR-10 mentioning an event that the Rhode Island Community Food Bank has called “Empty Bowls.” This very successful fundraising event helped raise funds for the food bank and featured local restaurants and artists. Artists would created and donate bowls to the event for guests to use and take home. Local chefs and restaurants would bring dishes for guests to sample. Sadly, this year’s “Empty Bowls” event was cancelled due to Covid-19 and its health concerns with events such as this. If you go to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s website, you will see a list of artists, restaurants, and sponsors who have contributed to this event in the past. Please support local businesses who support great causes and events like “Empty Bowls.” The link to that page is – RI Food Bank Empty Bowls. Here is are a few snapshots of some of those who have contributed in the past.

Stage 3 is a mostly flat bike ride and I really enjoyed viewing all the great fall foliage. November 1 is just about 10 days away and I look forward to training and enjoying this beautiful state on my bike. To recap, my charity bike ride from Old Mountain Field in Wakefield to Cardines Field in Newport is to raise awareness for our Rhode Island baseball community members who are in need of food this year. And thank you to everyone who has donated so far to my charity ride. The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.
