The RIBBE Charity Ride Training Log – Old Mountain Field to Home Base

My charity ride from Old Mountain Field in Wakefield to Cardines Field in Newport is just about 10 days away. I am riding this 65 or so miles to raise awareness and funds for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Embedded in these 65 miles are Rhode Island Baseball families who struggle with lack of food and are in need of food this holiday season. You can donate to my fundraising efforts on Facebook (Charity Ride for RI Food Bank) or by clicking this link to go to my fundraising page on the RI Community Food Bank’s website – RI Food Bank.

Yesterday, on a very seasonably warm morning for October, I rode what I would call Stage 1 of my upcoming charity ride. This ride took me from Old Mountain Field, the start of my ride, down Kingstown Rd, past Whalers Brewery, and onto the South County Bike Path. On the bike path, I passed the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale and stopped to take a photo of one of their service vans.

From there, I followed the bike path through Wakefield and into the Kingston section, stopping to take a photo of the new access road/path to the University of Rhode Island. I recently visited URI’s baseball practice and (fingers crossed) this will be a convenient road for me in the spring time to catch a game there at Bill Beck Field.

The stretch of bike path I rode was about 5 miles and it finished up at the Kingston Railroad Station. From there, I took a few side roads to get onto Route 2 North, passing SnapDragon Baseball Facility in Exeter, the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, the former location of Oatley’s Restaurant before turning onto Ten Rod Road and eventually heading to my house in North Kingstown. It was a challenging yet very successful training ride.

Earlier in the post, I mentioned the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale. You can find out more information about the Jonnycake Center by going to their website – www.jonnycakecenter.org – as well as their Facebook page – Jonnycake Center.

The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.
