Mad Hatter Party with an Alice in Wonderland Croquet Tournament

The North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce has a wide range of members and fundraising events coming up this Spring and Summer.  At the NK Blog, we are all about promoting positive news about events in our area that support good causes.  I recently received a press release with some information about a Mad Hatter Party that is being put on by the Association of Migraine Disorders, a new member of the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce.  Here a press release about the event:

North Kingstown, R.I. (May 20, 2015)

Join the Association of Migraine Disorders’ first annual Mad Hatter Party and you’ll experience Wonderland without having to tumble down a rabbit hole with Alice. The fundraising event—which will support two new postdoctoral fellows at the Brown University Institute for Brain Science—will be held on Sunday June 7, from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Aldrich Mansion in historic Warwick Neck. The event will feature an “Alice in Wonderland” themed croquet tournament, a Mad Hatter “best original hat” contest, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and live music overlooking Narragansett Bay.

The croquet tournament—overseen by a croquet master who will provide official game rules—will be held round robin style, with 16 teams able to participate. Teams will consist of four players each on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are asked to register online at amdfundraiser.org before May 15. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team and to guests sporting the most original hats. The event will be held rain or shine.

“Many migraine sufferers report experiencing vertigo and disorientation, not unlike how Alice felt when she entered Wonderland,” said Dr. Frederick Godley, president of the Association of Migraine Disorders. “In fact, our Alice in Wonderland theme was chosen in honor of Lewis Carroll, who suffered from a rare type of migraine that is now known as Alice in Wonderland Syndrome. It’s essential that we continue to bring awareness to migraine disorders and fund research that puts an end to the pain and misery that migraine sufferers face.”

Hosted by the Association of Migraine Disorders, the Mad Hatter Party offers several ways to support migraine research through event sponsorship opportunities, including tickets to the gala, a feature in the program book, croquet tournament signage and more. About the Association of Migraine Disorders

Founded in 2012, the Association of Migraine Disorders is a Rhode Island-based nonprofit organization that provides reliable information to migraine sufferers, educates healthcare providers and funds migraine research with the aim of improving the diagnosis and treatment of migraine disorders. The Association was established by otolaryngologists (ear, nose and throat doctors) who recognized that people suffering from migraine disorders exhibit many neurological symptoms beyond headaches that are often overlooked – leading to misdiagnoses and mistreatments and causing unnecessary suffering and economic consequences for millions. Through a unique emphasis on coordinating and consulting with experts from other fields of medicine, the Association intends to unify these related symptoms into one broad, single diagnosis of a migraine disorder. For more information about the Association of Migraine Disorders, visit http://www.migrainedisorders.org/.
