Thursday Night Visit to Loggers Field, University of Puget Sound

On my recent business trip to Tacoma for ABF Freight, I had the good fortune to find Loggers Field on a Google map search. It was fairly close to my hotel, so I circled it as a possible baseball experience. Loggers Field is the home of the University of Puget Sound Baseball team, aka The Loggers. The campus and field are located in the Northern section of Tacoma, actually I think they are technically in North Tacoma. The baseball team plays in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference. I stopped by there on Thursday night to take a few photos and check out the field.

The Loggers were just finishing up practice and there were a number of players still chatting on the field. I pulled up to the parking lot which abutted the field, across from what I believed was the football field.

Upon first inspection, the gates and dugout doors were locked, so I asked a few of the Logger players if I could take a photo behind home plate. After some intros, they called over to their coach who led me through the equipment room, through the dugout, and over to the bleachers behind home plate.

As the team practice had ended, I let myself out and walked around the stadium to catch a variety of different views. There was a plaque on the wall acknowledging the commitment to the program from Ben Cheney, of Cheney Stadium, home of the Tacoma Rainiers. From the looks of things around Tacoma, the Cheney family has been very important to the baseball and Tacoma community!

It was a nice evening to walk around the stadium. There was still plenty of light despite the clouds complete blanketing the sky. The gates ran all the way around the stadium and I walked the perimeter until I got to the left field corner. There was an opening, perhaps for some landscaping equipment to come onto the field. Nice walk around the park, no baseballs outside the fence. I did see a few inside but left them there for the Loggers.

I liked the logo as well. The Hatchet, as it is referred to at University of Puget Sound. It was a nice, mellow experience at Loggers Field. Big thanks to the players and coach who let me in to take photos. I was psyched to get over to North Tacoma and check out the Loggers baseball experience.
