Checking In On Rhode Island Players in Independent, Minor League Baseball

I recently wrote about Rhode Island Baseball history being made in the Bronx, with the New York Yankee’s Michael King (Bishop Hendricken High School) throwing a pitch to the Houston Astro’s Jeremy Peña (Classical High School) in a Major League game. And with the news of BHHS’s Alex Clemmey going in the 2nd round to the Cleveland Guardians, Rhode Island baseball is buzzing throughout the professional baseball world. Well it is, isn’t it??? Well, maybe to some (obsessed fans like me). Perhaps an all Rhode Island starting pitching duel is imminent? Or another challenger to Jeremy Peña in a Major League game? Perhaps a Rhode Island battery with a RIHS Pitcher throwing to a RIHS catcher? It is an exciting times for kids in Rhode Island to have so many prospects to look up to who are so, so close to realizing every kid’s dream – to play in a Major League game. Below is a roster of the next potential RI vs RI players in independent and minor league baseball as well as the organization, level they are currently in (as of 08/08/23).

Tucker Flint, Bishop Hendricken High School
Nick Raposo, Johnston High School
Caleb Wurster, Bishop Hendrick High School
Ben Brutti, South Kingstown High School
Ben Sears, East Providence High School
Patrick Maybach, North Kingstown High School
Shaun Gamelin, Chariho High School
Chris Wright, Cumberland High School

And with more local Rhode Island baseball talent signing minor league and free agent deals like Andrew Sears (Tigers), Zach Fogell (Red Sox), and Addison Kopack (Padres) I will definitely be expanding my list of professional baseball players very soon. This is an awesome time for Rhode Island baseball. And I believe that Rhode Island history will indeed be revisited at a Major League baseball game very soon.
