If your weather temperatures this week look like a healthy EKG reading, you are definitely experiencing the ups and downs of weather conditions in Rhode Island. Freeze warning? Come on! Right after a beautiful day to enjoy a baseball game or a harvest fair or attempt to install a fence in your yard (my Saturday activity) with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine, you hit us with a freeze warning??? My weather app says 35° and my lawn is frosted over and the few remaining leaves in my trees are falling like orangey snowflakes. So, while the sun is coming up and the temperatures climb into fence installation minimum standard levels, I have some time this morning to share some Rhode Island Baseball News with you.

This post came in during the week and I wanted to share this news from last weekend’s Fall AAU Championships – “Wanted to pass along! 14U Reds- DiScullio went undefeated this season and won this years’ 14u AAU Fall Championship. Their defense was the key for their Championship win over a tough Connecticut Panthers team. Their defense was fantastic allowing no runs in that game. Great Job Boys!“

Sent in via Facebook – “Narragansett Little Leaguers 11u won their fourth consecutive Rhode Island Little League Fall Ball championship on Thursday night 2-1 against WCA (Warwick Continental American Little League). For 9 of the 11 players, this was their last season for LL Fall Ball.“

I received a few messages this week that West Warwick High School alum and recent University of Connecticut Baseball transfer LHP Andrew Sears is trending upwards due to a very positive fall baseball season. Trending upwards meaning pro scouts have started to take notice and inquire about him. Definitely something to keep an eye on this Spring as Sears competes for the UCONN Huskies – perhaps we will see him pitch against Bryant or URI or Brown this Spring!

Last night in Game 2 of the 2022 World Series, The Houston Astros were up 3-0 in the first inning on like 7 pitches. They came out aggressive against the Phillies ace Zack Wheeler, many swinging at the first pitch they saw. Including Classical High School alum and Astros SS Jeremy Peña, who ripped a double to left field, plating Jose Altuve, on the first pitch he saw. This update just in this weekend – “Hope your weekend is going well. Beautiful weekend for baseball! The RI River Dogs 14u did the job today and swept the Autumn Baseball League 14u Championship Series by winning both games of the double header this afternoon in Westport, MA against a tough Westport competitor. The final score in game 1 was 10-3 then a come from behind win in the second game with a 5-4 final sealed the championship.” 

I saw a ton of posts with leagues working on closing down their fields after fall seasons had completed. Huge thanks and shout out to all the volunteers from various Rhode Island baseball leagues who helped close out your local baseball fields. Leagues rely on volunteers to prep the fields in the Spring and close them properly in the Fall, so thank you for all who helped out.
