No Off Day Planned Thursday, April 14th Here In Rhode Island Baseball

The Boston Red Sox, having just finished a 3 game series in Detroit vs the Tigers, have a scheduled off day today, Thursday April 14. The team is preparing for its opening series of games at Boston’s Fenway Park starting tomorrow, their first home games of the 2022 season. Roughly 70 miles due south of Fenway, Rhode Island Baseball Experiences will be on full display spread out over baseball fields from Conaty Park to Tiverton High School to Curtis Corner Middle School. Here is a recap, for the Red Sox brass should they find time in their days as well as the gigantic fan base of Rhode Island baseball, of what I see happening today around the Rhode Island Baseball Community:

Snipped from the RIPCOA (Rhode Island Principals’ Committee on Athletics website), an impressive 17 scheduled games will be played in Rhode Island Middle School baseball today. If my math is accurate, that means 34 rosters, 34 Rhode Island baseball families and 34 school communities will have an awesome baseball day!!! Personally, I have my eyes on the Wickford Middle School vs Davisville Middle School game, which is always a fun, competitive, and exciting crosstown rival game. And the Narragansett Pier School game, which features my nephews Jackson and Finley Hohl. See dates, times, locations, and teams all year long at http://www.ripcoa.com.

Snipped from the Rhode Island Interscholastic Sports Baseball page (www.riil.com), 10 Rhode Island High School baseball games are scheduled. Two are featuring newly formed co-op programs (Times 2 Academy, Paul Cuffee; Wheeler, Rocky Hill). According to the RIIL Individual School schedules, The South Kingstown vs Moses Brown School game is scheduled for today at 4pm, but just to be sure check with your school’s athletic department. It shows rescheduled to today, even though it is crossed out.

Bryant University Baseball hosts Merrimack College for 3 games at Smithfield’s Conaty Park. Merrimack’s roster includes former East Greenwich High School standout Tyghe Healy, who is going into his Sophomore campaign with the Merrimack College baseball team. The Bryant Bulldogs face the Merrimack Warriors today at 3pm.

Rhode Island College, on a recent tear at the plate and scoring runs like crazy, take on Curry College today at RIC’s Pontarelli Field. The Curry College baseball roster features Cumberland’s Ryan Kirkpatrick, who is listed as a sophomore Pitcher. Game time is 3:30 today with the RIC Anchormen facing the Curry College Colonels (say that 10 times fast).

Salve Regina University travels up North today to face in state rivals Johnson & Wales University on the Providence Campus of JWU. Both Salve and JWU rosters (players and coaches) are filled with top Rhode Island baseball talent. These in state matchups are always cool to watch. A lot of the Rhode Island players grew up playing games against each other in High School, AAU, and on the travel baseball circuit.

The CCRI (Community College of Rhode Island) Baseball team takes on Holyoke Community College today at Fell Field on the campus of CCRI, Warwick. Game is scheduled for 3:30pm featuring the CCRI Knights vs the Holyoke Community College Cougars.

Peppered in there somewhere, I am sure, are Rhode Island youth baseball league practices, maybe even some games, and a whole lot of Rhode Island Baseball Experiences and memories. Weather permitting, it should be a very busy day here in Rhode Island baseball. Good luck to all the players, coaches, schools, and families participating in your Rhode Island Baseball Experiences today!!!
