Breast Cancer Awareness Day – Johnson & Wales University Providence Baseball and Softball, April 9th
The 2022 Johnson and Wales (Providence) Baseball season is now 21 games in, and the JWU baseball club has won 2 of their last 3 games. Looking through my Rhode Island baseball social media pages this week, I spotted a post from the JWU Baseball Twitter page about a special day of baseball and softball games coming up this weekend. Here is the post copied and shared:
“Join us this Saturday for Softball and Baseball’s #BreastCancerAwareness games! The Johnson & Wales SAAC will be setting up a donation table between both fields where all proceeds will go towards breast cancer research and finding a cure. Remember to wear pink!”
The SMAC in the Twitter photo refers to the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex which is on the campus of Johnson and Wales University, Providence. I have visited the campus and baseball field in years passed, but have yet to attend a game there. The campus is located at 305 Shipyard St. Providence. From my home in North Kingstown, I took the Thurbers Ave exit, then veered right then took a right onto Allens Ave. I took a left onto Harborside Blvd and followed the signs to the Athletic Fields and Complexes on the JWU campus. Very easy to get to. Here is a stock photo of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex from the JWU facilities page:
One thing I remember from my walk around the baseball field was the view of Providence in the background. Also that dead center field was 405, as noted by this banner and team mascot logo. And I am guessing the wind is a factor with the field being so close to the water. Here are a few photos I took back in March of 2020:
Once again, Saturday April 9th – Johnson & Wales University Baseball And Softball Breast Cancer Awareness Games to benefit breast cancer research and finding a cure. Softball games are 12pm and 2pm vs Elms. Baseball games are 1pm and 3:30pm vs. Norwich. And don’t forget to wear pink and if you can, please make a donation at one of the tables set up at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex fields.
