West Warwick Baseball To Join Rhode Island Little League® Community in 2021
Just this past week, in my news feed on Facebook, I read a post from West Warwick Baseball concerning their 2021 season and beyond. Here is the post from their page, West Warwick Baseball:
“Hello to all West Warwick baseball families. We are excited to announce that West Warwick baseball is now joining Little League and is no longer Cal Ripken. It was a very difficult decision to come to as we been loyal to the Cal Ripken league for several years but we believe this will be for the best interest of our league for many years to come. As why we are leaving Cal Ripken: Cal Ripken is a dying league in the state of RI. There are only 3 other active towns involved. They don’t offer interleague play or a fall ball program. Little League brings much more competition. It also allows more players in more of an age range to participate. Little League has interleague play. This puts less stress on a league if it only has a team or two in the major division and/or higher. There’s much more of a pool to play against. They also have a fall ball program in which we’ve participated in the last two seasons.”

West Warwick Baseball has one of the crown jewel fields and sports complexes here in Rhode Island. River Point Park is home to McCarthy Field, which hosts tons of games throughout the baseball season including the RI Middle School and High School State Tournaments. It has access to the Washington Secondary Bike Path, soccer fields, basketball courts, huge parking lot, and several baseball and softball fields for players as young as Tee Ball age. West Warwick Baseball has a proud tradition of baseball here in Rhode Island. I know from playing against and with West Warwick players in my high school and college baseball career. Jason Rajotte was one of the toughest left handed pitchers I ever faced!!!
Good luck to West Warwick baseball, their entire organization, families, players, coaches, and volunteers as you enter a new era in joining Little League of Rhode Island.
