The Rhode Island Foundation Is A Valuable Resource On #GivingTuesday

Every day of the week has, at some point in the year, a special name designation. Black Friday shopping is a holiday tradition of the brick and mortal retail store. Cyber Monday shopping is the internet shopper’s dream – buying tons of gifts in your pajamas. You have Wacky Wing Wednesday and Thanksgiving Thursdays. You have a “big game” on Sundays in late January, early February which I cannot mention due to trademark laws (hint there are 11 players on a side, coaches with cut of sweatshirts, and a football involved). But did you know about a very special Tuesday that happens every year, the following Tuesday after Thanksgiving Thursday?

Giving Tuesday is today, December 1. According to, “GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity, and equity around the globe. GivingTuesday’s global network collaborates year-round to inspire generosity around the world, with a common mission to build a world where generosity is part of everyday life.

Sounds amazing. Now, what charity or fund or organization is near and dear to your heart? How about a charity that hits home, something in your community that could use a donation, or maybe a friend in need? If you have love in your heart and a donation in your hand, I have a suggestion. Go to the best local resource for donation information – The Rhode Island Foundation. They have an amazing website of information about how to give, a list of various funds that are set up here in Rhode Island, and how they impact our communities large and small. The Rhode Island Foundation has experts on staff to assist you with your charitable gift and can help navigate you or your business through every step along the way. If you click on the “Giving” button on their home page, you will be directed to their funding pages, where you can read about funds and who is benefitted by them. Every fund is special, every fund is important. Perhaps you will find one that is extra special and personally important to donate to today or any day your heart and wallet desires.

The Rhode Island Foundation staff is very receptive to emails and information. On a personal note, Jim Sanzi and Neil Steinberg were very generous with their time when I had questions about a fundraiser I was working on this fall.
