Cory’s Crew Drive Thru Pasta Dinner to Support A Rhode Island Baseball Hero

King Philip Little League, located in Bristol, RI embodies everything a youth sports organization aspires to be. KPLL, as they are known in Rhode Island Baseball, has a rich history of amazing volunteers, beautifully maintained baseball fields, and has produced tons and tons of talented baseball players. Over the past few years, I have been in contact with league President Jim Konz on game updates, KPLL news, field updates, championship games, and also the lighter side of baseball. Jim and KPLL recently posted a charity event that caught my eye – Cory’s Crew.

Cory’s Crew refers to the family and community support system for former King Philip Little League star Cory Burke. I found this incredible article online, written by Ted Hayes of the East Bay RI Newspaper, Tuesday August 13th, 2013 – “Sidelined by Cancer, Cory Burke becomes MVP.” It describes Cory’s journey as a youth baseball player dealing with a cancer diagnosis and how his teammates and the King Philip Little League community rallied behind him during a very difficult period in his life.

Fast forward to 2020 and Cory Burke, according to his bio on his website, is once again fighting the battle of his life, heading back to Dana Farber Cancer Institute for another round of cancer treatment. Cory did in fact beat cancer back in his early teens, having contracted Ewing’s Sarcoma at the early age of just 12 years old. However, another form of cancer has been found in his body and Cory is now facing another round of medical treatment and surgery. Here is more from Cory’s website – www.corywontfightalone.com:

On Thursday, December 3, Cory’s Crew will be hosting “Cory’s Crew Drive-Thru Pasta Dinner” to help raise funds for Cory and his family. This event will take place at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Center on State Street in Bristol. You can learn more about the event by going to www.corywontfightalone.com to see how you can make a difference in this young man’s life.

Good luck with this event and a special good luck to Cory Burke and his family. Best wishes and a good health to you Mr. Burke!!!
