The RIBBE Visits Roger Williams University’s Paolino Baseball Field
Located in beautiful Bristol, RI is Roger Williams University. The campus has an amazing backdrop of some of the best views in all of East Bay, with the Mount Hope Bridge and Mt Hope Bay as part of its borders. Growing up in Rhode Island, it was called Roger Williams College. In 1992, it became Roger Williams University. The campus is just minutes from historic Rhode Island towns like Bristol, Tiverton, Warren, and Portsmouth. And I visited their campus to check out their athletic facilities, especially the baseball field.
The Roger Williams University baseball program plays in the Commonwealth Coast Conference in Division III of the NCAA®. The RWU Hawks baseball team plays their home games on Paolino Field, which is surrounded by several athletic fields. I had a chance to walk the grounds and take some photos from around the park on a gorgeous late winter day. One thing I really noticed was the breeze coming off the water. The baseball field sat opposite the softball field in a huge mass of land.
Just off the first base/left field area of Paolino field is an incredible stadium and turf field. This multi-use facility is used for a wide range of sports such as lacrosse, soccer, field hockey, just to name a few. The turf and bleachers and surrounding area were immaculate, not a coffee cup or wrapper in sight. Very impressed with how the athletic fields and facilities looked.
The Roger Williams University baseball team features a number former RI High school stars from LaSalle Academy and Bishop Hendricken High School. And new Assistant Head Coach Dom Grillo is a North Kingstown High School alumni and played several years at the University of Rhode Island. Their 2020 season is just underway and the Hawks are playing teams down south before coming back to Bristol for conference play. Their first home game in Bristol is Tuesday March 17th vs. Bridgewater State. For more information on the 2020 RWU Hawks baseball team schedule, visit RWU Hawks Baseball.
Good luck to the Roger Williams University Hawks Baseball team this season. I will be stopping by this spring to catch a game and learn more about the baseball team.
