Day 7 – Rhode Island Baseball Field Bike Relay Ride Through Northern RI
Day 7 of my Rhode Island Baseball Field Bike Relay Ride started up in beautiful Scituate, RI and Gorham Field. Gorham is located off Route 101/Old Hartford Pike and is home to Scituate-Foster Little League. There is a huge parking area, awesome concession area with picnic tables and great views of two baseball fields, and has a beautiful wooden backdrop. I love seeing the league’s logos on the concession stands, dugout areas like Gorham Field has. Great park and great way to start Day 7. And if you are in the Scituate area this weekend (Oct 11-13), check out the Scituate Art Festival.
From Scituate, I hopped on Route 102, through downtown Scituate, passed Ponagansett Middle School, enjoying every mile of fall foliage, then right onto Route 44 in Chepachet to Acotes Field. Acotes Field is the home of Glocester Little League. There are 3 baseball fields at Acotes to accommodate multiple levels of youth baseball in Northern Rhode Island. I got a message from Glocester Little League on Facebook thanking me for stopping by and that they have big plans for 2020. Great baseball facility in Glocester and a great visit to Chepachet.
From Chepachet, I hopped back onto Route 102 which took me through Masonville, onto Victory Highway, up some steep inclines, and finishing up on Main St. and Casino Ave to Peck Field. Peck Field is the home of Burrillville Little League and features a massive recreation area for youth sports in Northern RI. 3 or 4 baseball fields, concession area, playground, batting cages, plenty of parking – all very well maintained with the gorgeous backdrop of the woods of Northern RI surrounding Peck. Burrillville Little League captured the 2019 District 4 12U title and competed for the State tournament this past summer. Awesome park in Burrillville for youth sports like Little League baseball.
Route 102 was such a great path to use all day through Northern RI. I hopped back on Victory Highway from Burrillville, passed Wright’s Dairy Farm, through Nasonville, into Forestdale and North Smithfield’s Pacheco Park. Pacheco Park is home to North Smithfield Little League and is another massive recreational park in Northern RI for a wide range of activities. There are a number of baseball fields, amazing playground, basketball courts, concession stand area, plenty of parking, and so much more. The playground was filled with kids when I arrived early Sunday morning. It is a well maintained park that has a ton of recreational options there in North Smithfield.
From Pacheco, I headed North and East, through Forestdale, briefly into Massachusetts, onto Route 122, down Winter St, and entered the final park of the day – World War II Memorial Park in Woonsocket. Woonsocket’s Lajoie Field is a baseball field that I have visited on several occasions. This passed Spring, I got to meet and greet league President John Levreault, who gave me a guided tour of the facilty, their new press box, and the park grounds. It is a treasure field here in Rhode Island which has great signage commemorating the life of Woonsocket native, Nap Lajoie. The field and park are just incredible. Huge recreational area with bandstand, basketball courts, a water park, tons of open space for walking, and of course Lajoie Field. Great to visit Woonsocket and I just love Lajoie Field.
