The RIBBE Celebrates Opening Day Ceremonies Across Rhode Island
Every fall, in every youth baseball league meeting involving a calendar, Opening Day is one of the first dates established for the upcoming season. For some leagues, Opening Day means showcasing a new batting cage or redesigned press box or in some cases, a brand new baseball field. Towns from Woonsocket to Westerly, from Cranston to Little Compton organize their league’s official start of the season with parades, inviting local and state government officials, first pitch ceremonies, and much more . Although some leagues start their regular season prior to their Opening Day Ceremony, every league reserves a special place on their schedules to celebrate their official Opening Day.

I love seeing all the great photos on social media. Starting in early April with Woonsocket Little League, leagues have been showcasing their baseball communities with great pictures on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. If you are a youth baseball league here in RI, feel free to post your photos on my page for all of the RI baseball community to see! I’m happy to share them.
These ceremonies and parades wouldn’t be possible without the support of state and local Police, Fire, and First Responder departments. I am seeing a lot of great photos and posts about fire departments stopping by to meet players, fire trucks leading parades, and police department staff helping parade goers. Thank you for keeping us safe and thank you for your dedication to your local community sports programs, like youth baseball.

As baseball fans, players, parents, coaches, and volunteers – we all join together as a community for Opening Day ceremonies. Players as young as Tee Ball age (3, 4, 5 years old in some leagues) get to step onto the field with older players and be a part of the next generation of baseball in their community. Past players, local civic leaders, and valued sponsors are recognized for their roles in making Rhode Island baseball so special. And it was great to see the mascots from the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Ocean State Waves get in on the action as well.

Weather has been such a factor already this April. I have been reading about cancellations, rescheduling, and postponements all month on social media. Hopefully, the rain will make way to beautiful baseball fields for the months to come. I was really happy to get my local North Kingstown/Wickford Little League Opening Day in without the rain playing a factor.
It was so great to see all the happy faces on the players, coaches, parents, and volunteers’ faces for Opening Day, 2019. Good luck to all the youth baseball leagues here in Rhode Island. And feel free to share any posts, stories, and photos with me this year.
