The RIBBE Visits Mount Pleasant Little League
Mount Pleasant Little League plays in Rhode Island’s District 1. Traveling through Providence last fall, I stopped in on their fields on a rainy day in late September. The two fields I visited were located next to Mount Pleasant High School, down the road from Rhode Island College and St. Augustine’s School at 434 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence. According to the league’s website, Mount Pleasant Little League was founded in 1951. Wow, a baseball tradition in Rhode Island for almost 70 years!!!
I met a really nice woman on my trip who showed me the two Little League fields and told me that the older kids played on the other side of the high school. She had been a volunteer over the years with the league and was so proud of the kids and parents who made the league so special. After speaking with her, I took a quick walk around the two Little League fields. Fall ball was still in season and the sponsorship banners lined the outfield fences. The fields were in good shape overall and the grounds looked like they were very well maintained. I liked that the concession stand was in the middle of the two fields and had a huge “Welcome” sign on the top.
I will definitely be back up to Mount Pleasant this spring and hope to visit on a day it is not raining so hard.
