Cigars and Guitars – A Jammin’ Good Time at the Carriage Inn & Saloon

At the Carriage Inn & Saloon in North Kingstown, an age old tradition is being revisited.  Musicians come together to play and share their love of music – no amplifiers, no guitar effects, just acoustic instruments.  Instruments like the acoustic guitar, bass, mandolin, harmonica, and of course singing voices of all pitches.  The jam session is called “Cigars and Guitars” and it takes place at the North Kingstown restaurant either indoors (minus the cigars) in bad weather or outdoors in the more seasonal times.   It takes place on a Monday night, when the restaurant itself is not open for regular business.  When the weather is nice, the “Cigars and Guitars” jam session is held out in the patio area of the restaurant, where there is a fire pit and heaters, should the evening get cool for the musicians and the audience that gathers.  Guests are welcome to come and listen and sing along. There is a bar outside and inside for drinks, as well as a limited bar/pub food type menu.  Steve Reale is the moderator and creator of the event.  Steve encourages guitar players of all abilities to join in the fun.  There are novice players jamming along with experienced, seasoned guitar players.  It is a great learning experience for the novice guitar player to be able to learn and watch the experienced ones jam.  I have been to “Cigars and Guitars” and learned a few songs along the way.  And had a great night hanging with other musicians who love to play and share their love of music with their community.
