After each Rhode Island Little League regular season, District All-Star Tournaments and Friendship Tournaments take over the many, many baseball fields of Rhode Island. I have been lucky enough to attend many of these tournaments as a coach, journalist, and parent. With all due respect to all the state, local, and friendship tournaments we hold here in Rhode Island, one of the most talked about tournaments that I have received tons of feedback and comments on over my years of covering local baseball news is Darlington American Little League’s Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament.
So what is the Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament? I received an email this past week updating me on the 2022 Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament:
“Good Morning, I just want to give you a heads up that Darlington American Little League’s Annual Christopher Andreozzi tournament is August 13th – 27th . Opening ceremony is August 13 at 9 AM.” Darlington American Little League has hosted the annual Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament every summer for the past 20+ years, with exception of the year lost to Covid-19. It honors the memory of one of DALL’s own that tragically passed away in a workplace accident at the age of 20. Each year, Little League teams from Rhode Island and surrounding cities, made up of 7- & 8-year-olds, show off their young talent on the Slater Park ball fields and compete for the top prize. It draws huge crowds of baseball fans cheering on their league’s players in a friendly, competitive, and very entertaining tournament of games.
So, who will be the teams competing in this summer’s Christopher Andreozzi Tournament?
11 Teams including:
- Darlington American/Pineview
- Cumberland
- Portsmouth
- Woonsocket
- Barrington
- Rumford
- North Providence
- Smithfield
- Bristol
- Scituate-Foster
- Elmwood
Once again, Opening Ceremony is Saturday August 13th at 9am. Teams will compete in the tournament from Saturday August 13th to Saturday August 27th. Games are played at Slater Park, Pawtucket.
