Celebrating A Busy Weekend Of Rhode Island Baseball Champions

Ok, show of hands, how many of you have said “is it hot enough out there?” to someone recently. The record heat and current heat wave throughout the Northeast could be felt at tournaments and festivals from Martha’s Vineyard, MA to Freehold, NJ to Bristol, CT and up to Rhode Island College, Johnson and Wales, Roger Williams Park Zoo and beyond. Players, coaches, families – I commend you for not only tackling the heat and humidity and impressive competition, but also for representing Rhode Island baseball on the local and national scenes this weekend. Here is a recap of just some of the impressive performances by outstanding members of our Rhode Island Baseball Community, as seen through my camera and the social media pages of some absolutely amazing RI and locally based baseball organizations:

Johnston, RI and Wheaton College P Zachary Clesas was HUGE for the MV Sharks this season, capping off a very successful NECBL summer with a W in Game 1 of the NECBL Championships vs Vermont Mountaineers on Friday night. Martha’s Vineyard would win Game 2 and the Fay Vincent Cup on Saturday. Congrats to Zach and the entire MV Sharks organization on an amazing year!!!

Hot one Friday morning/afternoon as the Ocean State Makos 15U club played in the 2022 Providence Slugfest. This Makos team is absolutely stacked with talent, many you will be seeing and reading about for years to come in RI High School baseball news. And great to catch up with Rob and Erin Arnold, Mark Cahill – great baseball people and awesome human beings!!!

KR Express Elite 14U is the 2022 AAU Summer Blast Tournament champs, winning 2 impressive games on Sunday in the mega-heat. Congrats to all the KR Express players, coaches, and families on a great tournament.

Another RI Tournament Update from Providence Slugfest – Northeast Training Baseball is the 2022 Providence Slugfest 18U Champions. #1 out of 25 teams competing, winning the title yesterday 10-0 in the finals, held at RIC’s Pontarelli Field. Congrats to all the Northeast Training players, coaches, and families on an amazing run in the Providence Slugfest!!

This was pretty cool for me – to watch my nephew Jackson Hohl smoke a double to deep left center field on Saturday morning in his DJB Bulldogs vs KR Express Elite game in the AAU Summer Blast Tournament, 14U Division.

Elmwood (who merged with Washington Park) Little League in the 2022 Dominican Festival. Players, coaches, and families marched in the parade and took part in the celebration which featured a parade and music at Roger Williams Park. Looks like a huge turnout! Great job representing RI Baseball Elmwood players, coaches, and families. More photos and videos on Elwood Little League’s IG page.

2022 AAU Summer Blast Tournament – “wanted to pass this along that 13u RI Reds won the 2022 13u AAU Summer Blast tournament this weekend. We only allowed 7 runs the whole tournament. Our pitching and defense was on point and our bats were on fire in the championship game. Winning 16-4.” Congrats RI Reds 13U players, coaches, and families on a great tournament!

This from Cumberland Mayor, Jeffrey Mutter – “I know it wasn’t the outcome you were hoping for, but boys you can hold your heads high! That was a hard fought game and you should be very proud – I know the rest of us are! Congratulations on a great season and for representing Cumberland so well.”

10U Eastern Regionals hosted by Cranston Western Little League and featuring Team RI, Cranston Western Little League – “Cranston West Little League wins their first game of the East Regional 6-3 against Vermont. Next up for Cranston West is Connecticut tomorrow at Varrato Field at 5pm!” Congrats Team RI and great job representing RI baseball!

Another weekend tournament update, this one from 2022 Providence Slugfest and the Ocean State Makos 16U White page – “What can I say about this crew … 6-1 this weekend . Lost in the finals .. 10-8 … 2nd out of 42 teams in the providence slugfest … great summer and they are all coming back ! Could not be more proud . 24-12-1 on the summer . They grind! I’ll take it” Well said and congrats on a fantastic tournament Makos players, coaches, and families!

This from Cranston East Little League “Our Juniors team was eliminated during the Regionals tournament. We are proud of them. Thank you all for your support.”

Thank you to all the families and my baseball friends in the Rhode Island Baseball community for sharing photos, game updates, and so much more this weekend.
