2022 Providence Slugfest Schedules Revealed, Showcase Camp News

The 2022 Providence Slugfest Tournament, hosted by Providence Sports & Leadership, will take place starting next Thursday, August 4th. Providence Slugfest is a massive baseball tournament held every summer here in Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts that attracts top baseball talent from Rhode Island organizations as well as neighboring states. This year, Slugfest has 3 divisions – 14U, 16U, 18U – who will be competing on some of Rhode Island’s best baseball fields. The teams and schedules were recently posted on the PSL website, which you can also find the story of Providence Sports and Leadership.

So, if you don’t know PSL, here is a snippet from their website on who they are – “Today, Providence Sports and Leadership (PSL) provides over 80 young men between the ages of 13 and 18 with the opportunity to play competitive baseball at an extremely reduced price. PSL has three travel teams: 14 and under (14u), 16 and under (16u), and 18 and under (18u). Our 16u and 18u teams are prospect teams, playing highly competitive schedules that expose them to collegiate scouts throughout New England.

In addition to organizing competitive teams, PSL exposes our players to year-round training, athletic, ethical and academic, for teens of all skill levels. Outside of our competitive spring/summer season, we offer fall baseball and indoor winter training at the Elmwood Community Center. Players are required to participate in community service events overseen by their coaches. To support our players’ academic endeavors, we have a mentorship program called College Assist, funded by a grant from the City of Providence, that guides students through high school level work and college applications. Over the last 6 years, 30 of our players have gone to college, and 15 PSL alumni are currently playing college baseball.

I have connected with a number of PSL coaches and players over the years for stories and this is a TOP NOTCH organization from top to bottom!!! I encourage you to read about their amazing work with the student athletes of their organization and reach out to them if you need further information on how PSL can help your family.

Ok, back to Slugfest. But first, I want to mention the Providence Slugfest’s College Showcase Camp. It is taking place at Rhode Island College Baseball’s Pontarelli Field on Thursday, August 4th. Here is what you get, “All players will receive a pro style workout, a t-shirt and a statistical data driven evaluation performed by college and professional coaches. These evaluations will be made available online and distributed to our college scouting and contact database. We hire college and pro coaches to be on the field instructing but also providing evaluations on each player so we guarantee 25+ coaches at our events. All subsequent stories and highlights written about a player will be linked to the player’s social media profile along with the Firecracker Sports website and social media platforms, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for a college recruiter.” Click on the highlighted text in the paragraph to be redirected to the official page of the Providence Slugfest showcase camp, where you will find registration information, camp schedules, and find out who will be attending.

Ok, now to the teams competing in the 2022 Providence Slugfest. Here is a slideshow snapshot of the teams for each division – 14U, 16U, 18U – and their individual pool play divisions:
