Rhode Island Middle School Baseball Update – A Return To Normalcy
The 2021/2022 Rhode Island Middle School basketball season wrapped up this past weekend at Johnston High School. Portsmouth outdueled Narragansett to win the Boy’s State Title, the first such title in Boy’s Basketball in nearly 3 years. And with that, the basketball season is completed which then opens the door to the next season of Middle School sports, including baseball. It has been 3 years since Wickford Middle School hoisted the Rhode Island Middle School Championship plaque and this year another school (or possibly Wickford Middle) will take its place as Rhode Island Middle School Champion.

I reached out to Rhode Island Principals’ Committee on Athletics or RIPCOA to ask about the 2021/2022 baseball season. Baseball Director Jon Devolve messaged me back, “I am happy to report that Middle School baseball in Rhode Island is back to normal!! There will be no masks, fans will be allowed, and playoffs and a champion will be crowned! Nothing different to report as far as rules. As far as what will be different, hopefully, this Spring season will be the start of a return to normalcy for all of us. “
For those of you new to the RI Middle School Sports website, here is the link – RIPCOA – which provides updates on games, schedules, standings, rules, and everything you need to know about middle school sports. The baseball page has not been updated with game schedules as of yet (02/22/22). Here are the divisions that middle school baseball players will compete it.
As the season begins, games are played, and news happens, I will share and publish as much Rhode Island Middle School baseball updates as I can. Good luck to all the players, coaches, schools, and families this Spring as you head towards a return to normalcy in Middle School baseball here in Rhode Island.
