A Baseball Hit So Far It Left Massachusetts and Landed in Rhode Island
After a recent article about one of my Rhode Island baseball field experiences, I was contacted by Seekonk Little League’s Brian LaSalle. LaSalle is the former President of Seekonk Little League (as of late September, 2021), who has spent 10 years on the board of directors and the past 4 years as SLL President. He mentioned the amazing work he and his volunteers had done at Hurley Middle School and invited me out to see the field. I mentioned that I knew Ken Ryan Baseball had run camps at Hurley over the years and that I had in fact visited that field before. Then, LaSalle hit me with a really cool story about 2 of his Seekonk Little League fields.
“Here is a more unique Rhode Island connection,” Brian stated. “Two of our (Seekonk) LL fields are partially located in Rhode Island. The RI line cuts right thru Murphy Field and New Field as well. So, technically part of our Little League games are actually played in RI. The ball at times gets hit into RI but the plays at the bases are all made in MA on Murphy field. About 40% of Murphy field is located in RI.” Very cool story indeed and here is the Google Map of the fields to prove it.
In the map photo above, the large field closest to the building with the green roof is the Hurley Middle School Field, where the 14U Seekonk Autumn Baseball League team is playing today vs Maplewood, then Taunton. To the left of Hurley’s big field, is Hipkiss Field which is the first photo in this article. Adjacent to Hipkiss Field is New Field, which has the Rhode Island border lines cutting through 3rd base and into left field. Murphy Field is the field opposite New Field in the Google Map photo and has the Rhode Island border line cutting into most of center and right fields. Here are some photos I took yesterday at Seekonk Little League’s very interesting baseball fields.
A spectacular day to visit a spectacular baseball field. Hurley Middle School Field was groomed and in A+ plus ready to play condition.

Behind home plate at David Murphy Field. So, as a left handed batter, I could hit a home run to right field out of Massachusetts and into Rhode Island. Not a tall tale, the TRUTH!
Behind home plate at New Field. Here a right handed batter could hit a baseball to left field and into Rhode Island. Then, if he/she is trying to stretch a single into a double, they could be thrown out at second base, which is in Massachusetts. Cool!

The entire Seekonk Little League baseball complex is very impressive. There is plenty of parking, tons of great views of each field, snack shack, the fields are very well maintained, and wooden backdrop with the leaves just turning colors was really awesome.

I had a great visit to Seekonk Little League’s baseball complex. The fields were in ready to play condition and in fact, the 14U Seekonk Autumn Baseball League team is just about to take the field as I am writing this article. Big thanks to Brian LaSalle for the very interesting story about the fields and their connection to Rhode Island. What a cool experience – to hit a baseball completely out of your state!!!
