Darlington American Little League’s Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament Set For July

Every summer since 1999, there has been a Memorial Tournament held at Darlington American Little League’s Slater Park Baseball Fields. The Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament honors the memory of Christopher, who played for Darlington from Tee Ball to Senior Division. 2020 was the only year since 1999 that the tournament was not held (due to Covid-19 restrictions), but the tournament is back on the schedule for this July, 2021.

I received an email this week from Darlington American Little League Board Member Nicole Latendresse who outlined the particulars of the tournament for me to share with you:

Darlington American Little League will be hosting the annual Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament this summer. This will mark the 21st year the tournament has taken place and honors the memory of one of DALL’s own that tragically passed away in a workplace accident at the age of 20.

Each year, Little League teams from Rhode Island and surrounding cities, made up of 7- & 8-year-olds, show off their young talent on the Slater Park ball fields and compete for the top prize. This year, the tournament will be held from July 19th through July 31st. Ceremonies for the tournament will be held on Saturday, July 24th.

We are thrilled to hold the Christopher Andreozzi Memorial Tournament again after having to cancel it last year due to Covid restrictions.

This year’s tournament will be comprised by a maximum of 12 teams, with a 3-game guaranteed pool play. The top 8 teams will be seeded in a single elimination playoff bracket culminating in the championship game scheduled for Saturday, July 31st.

I was just reading some notes from covering this tournament in year’s past and one parent wrote to me “This is the best tournament every year in Rhode Island.” Darlington American Little League has incredible volunteers who make the fields at Slater Park look spectacular year round. Plus, Slater Park is such an incredible baseball and softball experience, with Tee Ball Fields, Majors Fields, and the “big” field where high schools and amateur league teams play.
