What’s Up Everybody – News and Notes From Rhode Island Baseball Leagues, Organizations, and Players

With many Rhode Island baseball leagues, organizations, teams, and players moving indoors soon, there is still a lot of news to report on. Here is a recap from this week’s social media posts and emails I have received regarding Rhode Island baseball:

In a press release and social media campaign, the Ocean State Makos announced that they have partnered with Warwick’s Northeast Sports and Training facility in creating a baseball and softball training center called “The Shark Tank.” With its impressive roster of coaches and programs, the Makos now partners with one of the first Rhode Island fitness and conditioning centers in the Northeast Sports and Training facility or NEST. You can read more about this new partnership and it benefits by clicking this link – Makos, NEST Press Release.

Area Scouts has announced that RI/MA Regional Evaluator Bryan Murray will now become the National Director of Baseball Operations. Bryan and his Area Scouts RI team are already working with athletes here in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and there are some really exciting plans for this organization happening in 2020 and into 2021. Their tag line says it all – “Area Scouts: Developing Athletes Through Efficient Movement and Metrics.” To learn more about Area Scouts, set up an evaluation by one of their baseball coaches/evaluators, click on this link to learn more – Area Scouts RI.

Got an email this week from Mike Falcone of the Newport Gulls. The Newport Gulls play in the New England Collegiate Baseball League and have done so for 20 plus years. Last summer, their summer schedule of games was cancelled, their season was cancelled, and their opportunity for revenue was cut short before the first pitch could be thrown. Here is more from Mike – “2020 has certainly been a year for the ages. Unfortunately, just like so many other small businesses, the Newport Gulls have been negatively effected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We have decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help support next year’s 20th Anniversary Season. There is a text form and word.doc Press Release found below. There is also an image and links to our website and donation platform.” Here is the link for those that would like to learn more and donate – Newport Gulls Fundraiser.

National Letter of Intent Day or NLI was Wednesday November 11. The student athletes of Rhode Island had an opportunity to be spotlighted, signing their letters of intent for colleges and universities all over the United States. This post from Coventry’s Hops Athletic Performance features baseball and softball players who have been worked with coaches and trainers at HOPS over the years. The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.
