George Donnelly Sunset League Laces Up For Another Summer Baseball Season
The George Donnelly Sunset League is one of the oldest baseball traditions in Rhode Island. The league has been in operation for over 100 years (101 to be exact) and up until this summer had played its games primarily at Cardines Field, Newport. Due to demands of Cardines and the “new normal” we are all living with, the Sunset League is now playing games at several locations. Cardines Field is once again seeing game action and this summer The Sunset League has added games at Sprague Park, Narragansett and North Providence High School. Top local talent from New England colleges, sometimes high schools, compete in the Sunset League.
This summer, 2020, there are 6 teams competing in the Sunset League. They are:
- Rathskeller
- Brother’s Baseball Club
- Westcott
- Town Dock
- R & R Construction
- R & R Legion
The league has a website which showcases games, standings, schedules, and more. There is Covid-19 safety information.
