The Rhode Island Baseball Volunteer Photo Gallery
This past week, amidst all the cancellations and delays and suspensions of baseball activities, a bright and shiny message came to me. Heather Vale of Warwick North Little League, out of the blue, emailed me photos of her fellow WNLL baseball family along with Local Carpenters Union 330. In the post and photos are volunteers fixing up, upgrading, and improving the overall experience for the youth of Warwick at “The Pit” Little League Complex on Post Road. Here is the message I received from Heather, one from Local 330 and the photos:
“Thank you to Local 330 carpenters union! Donating an entire day to Warwick North Little League for some much needed repairs.”
“A huge thank you to my fellow Union brothers and league board members who came out today (with everything going on) to help better our Little League! We were able to repair 2 dugout roofs, a patio roof, and reface the snack shack. The kids may not notice, but I hope the community does! Union Proud, Carpenters Local 330”
This message was then posted on my social media pages and I was so thrilled to share it with all of the Rhode Island baseball community. I knew there were other acts of volunteerism I could promote. So, I shared photos of my North Kingstown/Wickford Little League volunteers days. Specifically the day we installed turf at Wilson Park’s Cooney Field batting cages.
From there, I set out to “challenge” other leagues to send me photos and posts and messages about how volunteers made a difference in their league. It may have been recent or last year or 5 years ago. The fact is that at one point, a dedicated group of volunteers stepped up to the plate and hit a home run for the league, the kids, the community at large. Here are some more photos and posts I received this week.
Coventry Little League “A wonderful group of Home Depot employees and a few CLL Board members took time out of work to volunteer to better our main fields at Paine Field. Not to mention it was a hot week and that week and no one complained! New floor for press box, painted dugouts along with new roofs.”
Warwick Continental American – “Here are pics our the volunteers from Warwick continental hard at work!”
Warren Little League – “Community volunteers helping to renovate and expand Jannitto Memorial Field concession building. Through private fundraising and league volunteer work, WLL has reconstructed this building to include a second floor press box, indoor bathroom, and enhanced concession operations and equipment. Countless hours worked by Paul DeWolf, Jim Towers, Jay Thompson, Chris Moniz, Nathan Moniz, Steve Furtado, Joel Cary, Scott Cary, Steve and Jodi Furtado.”

Cranston Western Little League – “CWLL Hard at work!”
We have over 50 youth baseball leagues in Rhode Island from Little League to Cal Ripken to Babe Ruth to Girls Baseball to Connie Mack to American Legion Leagues. I know, because I have visited them, we have over 100 baseball fields here in Rhode Island that service kids from Tee Ball to the College level kids. I “challenge” every league, every community, everyone to send me photos and a quick message about a spectacular volunteer event that helped shape your league. It can be similar to these posted here – renovations on structures at the ball park, or concession stand workers during a regional tournament event, or simply volunteers helping to clean up the field. We have so many stars on the field that we spotlight. Let’s create some positive energy going into (potentially) the baseball season here in Rhode Island, whenever that may be.

The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.
