A Few Interesting Stats from the 2019 Baseball Fall Classic

Baseball Reference (www.baseball-reference.com) is an awesome website if you love baseball statistics. You can look up player profiles, teams of your childhood, games that go down in history, and every statistic imaginable. I took a closer look at this year’s World Series matchup between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros via Baseball Reference and found these interesting stats:

The Washington Nationals (Nats) struck out 61 times in 241 at bats. That is a strikeout percentage of 25% or 1 batter in 4 at bats strikes out. The Houston Astros (Astros) struck out 51 times in 250 at bats. That is a strikeout percentage of 20% or 1 batter in 5 at bats strikes out.
The Nats hit 11 home runs in the 7 game series. The Astros also hit 11 home runs in the 7 game series. Home runs accounted for 5% of the total hits recorded by each team.
The Nats hit 8 doubles in the 7 game series. This means the Nats hit more home runs that doubles.
In the 7 game series, the Nats recorded 4 stolen bases. The Astros recorded 6 stolen bases.
There was only 1 triple, recorded by the Nats in the 7 game series.
The Nats walked 27 times in the 7 game series. The Astros also walked 27 times in the 7 game series.
For the 7 game series, a player on the Nats either walked, struck out or hit a home run in 4 out of 10 at bats or 40% of the time a walk, a strikeout, or a home run was recorded.
For the 7 game series, a player on the Astros either walked, struck out or hit a home run in 3.5 out of 10 at bats or 355 of the time a walk, a strikeout, or a home run was recorded.
Justin Verlander recorded 6 walks in 11 innings of pitching. In the regular season, Verlander recorded just 42 walks in 223 innings.
The home team lost every game of the 7 game, leaving 10s of thousands of fans who purchased very expensive World Series tickets very disappointed.

Every Major League Baseball team now resets to 0-0 for the 2020 season. Congrats to the Washington Nationals on a very interested World Series victory.
