The RIBBE Visits Elmhurst Youth Baseball And Colorful Fargnoli Park
This afternoon, I visited the home field of Elmhurst Youth Baseball, Fargnoli Park. Fargnoli Park is located on Smith St. in Providence, down the street from LaSalle Academy, LaSalle Bakery and Providence College. The park is a recreation paradise – playground areas, basketball courts with the most incredible surface colors I have ever seen, a friendly and welcoming aura, tons of amazing wall murals, and of course baseball fields.
The baseball field with the sign “Home of Elmhurst Youth Baseball” is just a few steps from all of the great recreational options at Fargnoli. I walked around the perimeter of the field to get some photos of the park and field. The field is visible from the adjoining neighborhoods off Smith St. as well as the park participants. I saw light towers, so I’m guessing they have night games here in the Spring and Summer. Field and grounds were in really nice shape. In fact, the baseball field was in ready to play condition if not for the rain pouring down this afternoon. There was a concession stand just off the third base foul area.
Just outside the main field, there was a smaller field, perhaps set up for Tee Ball or instructional play. Elmhurst Youth Baseball features Cal Ripken League play for ages 4 to 12 and Babe Ruth League play for ages 13-15.
When I visit baseball parks, I always look for special plaques and commemorative tributes to veterans or important members of that particular organization or league. At Fargnoli Park, I found two plaques. The one on the wall of the concession stand read “In Loving Memory of Greg Lombardo, 43 Years of Dedicated Service to Elmhurst.” The other was a plaque honoring servicemen and servicewomen from the Elmhurst and Mount Pleasant sections of Rhode Island.
It was a great visit to Elmhurst Youth Baseball and Fargnoli Park in Providence. The colorful murals with the beautiful messages were inspiring and uplifting. The park was filled with amazing recreation options for kids of all ages. Easy to find, easy to get to from Route 6 and Route 95. Definitely worth a visit and I’m glad I took the ride up to Elmhurst Youth Baseball today.
