2019 To Begin A New Era For North Providence Little League

Traveling through District 1 this fall, I stopped in to visit two North Providence Little League facilities. North Providence East Little League’s K of C Field is located on Ivan St. off Mineral Spring Ave. And North Providence West Little League’s Romano Field is located on Maple Ave off Woonasquatucket Rd. As I did with all of the fields I visited, I took photos of the facilities, sponsorships signage, and fields to promote the great work done by the league’s volunteers and support staff.

Each field was in really nice shape when I visited. The signage for sponsors was still in place, especially at North Providence West’s Romano Field. There was a really cool mural painted on the third base dugout at Romano Field as well. K of C Field had placed signage up for parents and fans of Little League stating things like “let them play” and “let them be kids.” I really love those signs!!! There was plenty of seating at each park, whether it be bleachers, up the hill from the parking area, or along the fences. And each park had terrific score boards with great local representation of first responders.

I really enjoyed visiting both of these baseball parks. Shortly after posting the photos to my social media pages, I received a few emails from North Providence parents stating that the two proud leagues – NP East and NP West – would be merging. The new league would simply become North Providence Little League. To go into the merger in depth, read this great article published this spring by the Valley Breeze – Town’s two leagues team up to form NP Little League next year

If both facilities were to be used, the newly formed North Providence Little League would feature some of the best fields in the state for kids. Each park has great sponsorship signage and field signage that encourages fair play. K of C field offers a massive recreation area with basketball and tennis courts, in addition to the two Little League fields. Romano Field offers batting cages, concession stand, great seating, and plenty of parking. From the article in the Valley Breeze, it appears that the merger was simply a numbers game with participation being down in all divisions of Little League. I hope the new merger breathes new life into baseball in North Providence, where it has a proud tradition of Little League baseball.
