In my travels around the state of Rhode Island cataloging baseball fields, I have gotten accustomed to a traditional Little League® field set up.  Fenced in outfields, concession stand, dugouts, local business sponsorship signs, and league specific historical markers are just some of the typical things I have witnessed in visiting over 40 baseball fields this year.  And while all of these make each Little League® field in Rhode Island special, there was one field I visited that was nothing like the others.  That field was the Adamsville Field in Little Compton.

When I stepped out of my Tahoe on Main St. in Adamsville and took my first look of this baseball field, I was in absolute awe of its beauty.  The landscape around the park was simply stone walls, huge beautiful trees, and the adjoining houses just passed the stone walls.  The infield stone dust was immaculate.  The mound was perfect.  The baselines were pristine.  The infield and outfield grass looked so neat and well kept, I was blown away by the conditions.  The dugouts were just a bench for each time, enough for the players to take a seat and rest between innings.  There were picnic tables and some bleacher seats on each side.  The weather that day was absolutely perfect for baseball, photography, and I literally walked every inch of that park snapping photos and soaking it all in.

I wasn’t able to confirm which team or league still uses this field.  For what I could find out, Rhode Island’s District 2 may use these fields for Minors or Majors Divisional play.  This Adamsville field has a batting cage just passed the right field area.  I was able to park in the church parking lot which faced the baseball field.  The historical markers at this incredible baseball field were really interesting as well.  One of them commemorated the Rhode Island Red, our state bird.  A sign on the backstop read “Philip Manchester Wheeler Memorial Common.”  The town sign in front of the baseball field reads “Adamsville, Rhode Island, 1675.”  A truly historical baseball field with a ton of character throughout.

This baseball field in Adamsville, Little Compton was just amazing.  The field was in near perfect condition aesthetically.  The stone walls which formed the perimeter of the field were just so interesting.  The historical markers and genuineness of this baseball field brought a huge smile to my face.  I could almost picture Christy Mathewson pitching to Babe Ruth in this park.  It was about as perfect as a baseball field as I have ever stepped onto.  What an incredible Rhode Island Baseball Experience.
