King Philip Little League – Bristol, RI’s Amazing 11’s Baseball Champs
King Philip Little League® is located in Bristol, RI. They play in District 2 of Rhode Island Little League®. This summer, KPLL found itself riding a wave of victories all the way to the Eastern Regional Tournament in Beverly, MA. First, they had to get through a tough district schedule. After losing to Barrington Little League, King Philip showed its courage and talent by winning elimination game after game. A rematch with Barrington in the 11’s finals set up the “if” game against Barrington again. Both the rematch and the final “if” game concluded with a King Philip Little League victory, by the same identical score of 2-1.
Then, King Philip would move onto the Rhode Island State tournament to face Lincoln, Coventry, and Cranston Western for the chance to be crowned “Rhode Island 10-11 Year Old Champion.” Two early wins in the states put KPLL in the finals game versus Coventry Little League. And, in the finals, King Philip was once again victorious. And was crowned the 2018 10-11 Rhode Island State Champions.
Next up, the families, coaches, players, and King Philip organization traveled to Beverly, MA to represent Rhode Island in the 10-11 Eastern Regionals. Coach Matt Andreozzi was kind enough to send me updates, photos, and news about the team throughout the tournament. KPLL (Team RI) posted victories against Team MA and Team ME. Team RI lost to Team MD and to the eventual tournament champion – Team PA. Coach Andreozzi commented “We ended up losing 4-0, but went 2-2 in Regionals and are very proud of our team. PA ended up winning the Regional championship today, so we lost to the eventual champions.” Great run indeed by these incredible 11U All-Stars.
Congratulations to King Philip Little League, District 2 Champions, Rhode Island State Champions. Great job by the coaching staff, the parents, the organization, and of course these fantastic Little League® baseball players. I think we will be seeing a lot more of King Philip Little League come 12U tournament time next summer. Best wishes to all the players, coaches, and families.
