Gulls and Waves – Class Organizations On and Off The Field
The New England Collegiate Baseball League season officially ended last night with the Valley Blue Sox defeating the Ocean State Waves and clinching the Fay Vincent Championship Cup. My sons and I got to see several games this summer at Old Mountain Field (Ocean State Waves) and in Newport at Cardines Field (Newport Gulls). The play on the field was tremendous. This NECBL showcases top baseball prospects from around the country every summer not only here in Rhode Island but all across the New England states. The NECBL has 13 teams rich with tradition, talent, and gives these small New England towns something to cheer about every year.
And here in Rhode Island, The Ocean State Waves and the Newport Gulls are making a positive impact both on and off the field. On the field, communities are gathering for games, sponsors get to host game nights and bring in a new customer bases, and families get to spend a quality night out without “breaking the bank.” Off the field, Waves and Gulls players, coaches, and key organizational members are making a huge impact in their communities-at-large. Hosting summer camps, engaging kids to read at local schools, signing autographs or just talking baseball with fans. These players, most of whom are living with host families for the summer, make a positive impact in their adopted communities every summer.
Thank you to all the players, coaches, managers, organizational leaders for the Ocean State Waves and the Newport Gulls for providing your community, your adopted community, and all of us here in Rhode Island with such a positive Baseball Experience. Good luck to all who are traveling home and good luck this year in school. We hope to see you next summer here in Rhode Island for more exciting Gulls and Waves baseball.
