Becoming A Host Family for the Ocean State Waves
For the past 4 years, I have seen tremendous success and popularity of the Ocean State Waves baseball club here in Southern Rhode Island. The Ocean State Waves are a baseball organization based in Wakefield and are part of the New England College Baseball League. Major college baseball players from Rhode Island, Florida, Tennessee, even California will be playing for the Waves this summer. Many of these collegiate players will go onto professional careers in baseball, some as early as next season. The baseball experience is incredible for fans, the players, and the communities of Wakefield and South Kingstown.

One of the best things about the Ocean State Waves is their staff, led by President and General Manager Matt Finlayson. Matt and his staff recruit players, set up the operations at their home stadium of Old Mountain Field, coordinate community involvement, secure sponsorships, and much, much more. And every year, once the roster of players is selected, the staff gets to work finding housing for out of state players joining the Ocean State Waves this summer.
Have you ever considered being a host family for an out of state baseball player? If so, here is just a small sample of the many benefits of being a host family:
- A free family pass to ALL NEBCL games – Click here to see 2018 Schedule
- Invitations to ALL Ocean State Waves events
- FREE Summer Camp – Learn more by clicking here
The host family commitment runs from the first week of June to early to mid August, depending on the Waves playoff run. Host families are required to provide a clean, healthy environment for the player. These Waves players are selected not only for the ability to play baseball, but also their character off the field. Ocean State Waves players are community service orientated and perform countless hours of community service every summer all over Southern Rhode Island. As a host family, you will be gaining a ball player, a friend, and your family will have lasting memories of the experience.

The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.
