Inversion Therapy with the Health Gear Inversion Table
Inversion Therapy is often defined as hanging upside or at an inverted angle while being suspended or hanging by the ankles, lower leg, or feet for therapeutic purposes. Those therapeutic purposes may include stretching or decompressing the spine or spinal traction in some cases. There are a number of forms of inversion therapy, with gravity boots and inversion tables being two of the more common methods. Inversion tables give the user much more range of starting points and are typically easier to use for a wider range of the population.
An inversion table, like the Health Gear model shown in the photo provided, is a free standing piece of fitness and exercise equipment. This model, the ITM5500, features a large padded surface for your back and lower body to rest against. There are safety handles on either side of the frame. This Health Gear inversion table is adjustable for a wide range of heights. You can adjust the lower leg locking area to fit your individual height. There is a spring loaded locking ankle area which will hold you in place when you invert or go upside down.
To perform an inversion on the Health Gear Inversion Table, adjust the lower leg piece based on your height. Place each foot on the metal step, then lock the foam roller pads securely against your shin/lower leg. Then, keeping your arms down by your side, lean back against the back/lower body pad. If this is your first time using an inversion table, make sure you have someone with you to assist you. Inversion therapy may not be for you, so having a helper there can make a huge difference medically speaking. When you are ready, raise both arms over your head to move your center of gravity to the inverted position. Go slowly at first and do not go to full inversion. Try a small angle of inversion first to see if it is comfortable for you. Build up to larger angles of inversion to make sure it is right for you. To return to your normal body position, simply bring your arms forward to your sides or grab the handlebars and pull yourself upright.
The Health Gear ITM5500 Inversion Table has the following features listed its manual and printed material:
- Relieves back pressure
- Elongates the spine

- Improves posture
- Relieves muscle aches
