Opening Day for Wickford and North Kingstown American Little League a Huge Success

Amazing turnout for today’s Wickford and North Kingstown American Little League Opening Day Parade.  Teams, coaches, volunteers, and families watched and cheered as the Wickford and North Kingstown Little Leagues marched together.  Kids of all ages braved the chilly conditions as they marched from Wickford Middle School, through Wickford Village and ended up at Wilson Park.  T-ball, Single A, AA, AAA, and Majors division teams lined up together.  Presidents Arnie Sarazen and Todd Mascena said a few words to the crowd.

A plaque ceremony in honor of Ed Cooney followed comments by new North Kingstown High School baseball coach Tom Pacia.  The Cooney family threw out the first pitch and the ceremonial “Play Ball” marks the offical start of the 2017 Wickford and North Kingstown American Little League season.

Great job by all the volunteers to get the fields ready and organize the Opening Day ceremonies. Special thanks to North Kingstown Town Councilman Kevin Maloney for walking with us.  Thanks to the North Kingstown Fire Department and the North Kingstown Police Department for keeping the parade route safe.  Looking forward to a great season of baseball here in North Kingstown.
