2nd NK Teen Open Mic Night To Benefit Pennies For Patients Charity

Back in early November, a number of teens, parents, and musicians gathered at the Cold Spring Community Center.  The theme of the night was to promote the talented youth musicians located right here in North Kingstown and to raise money for a great local charity – The North Kingstown Special Olympics.  Teens sang, played guitar, laughed, and cheered for one and other in the 2 hour event hosted by the North Kingstown Marketing Company.  After a very successful and fun night, the total donation amount came to $205.50, which was then presented to the North Kingstown Special Olympics.  It was a great night for the kids and our community at large.

Because of this great success and the immense feeling of community, the North Kingstown Marketing Company is proud to announce the 2nd NK Teen Open Mic Night.  This will be held Friday, March 31st in North Kingstown.  This event showcases the very talented musicians, singers, and performers that attend North Kingstown schools.  The charity of choice for this event will be “Pennies for Patients.”

As with the 1st NK Teen Open Mic Night event, the public is welcome to attend.  Kids from any of the North Kingstown School as well as North Kingstown residents who go to private school are welcome to attend.  There will be some musical instruments on site and we encourage you to bring your own instruments as well.  As we get closer to the event, we will post a sign-in opportunity as well as further details about the location.  At press time, we are looking at renting out either the North Kingstown High School cafeteria or the Cold Spring Community Center.  Musicians and their fans are encouraged to bring spare change to fill up the donation buckets, to be donated to “Pennies for Patients.”

According to the school website, www.studentseries.org, “Pennies for Patients is a three-week program for Elementary and Middle Schools where students collect change and raise funds online while learning about service and philanthropy.  The funds, collected during a three-week period, benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.”  We are so excited to put on another charity event to teach our North Kingstown family about community service, music appreciation, and donating their time for a very worthy cause.

The 2nd NK Teen Open Mic Night will be held Friday March 31st.  It will be in the cafeteria of North Kingstown High School.  The performers will be singing, playing guitar, playing piano, and stand up comedy from 6pm to 8pm.  All performers and fans are encouraged to bring spare change to fill the donation buckets.  For more information, you can email me at thenkmarketing@gmail.com
