Wheelchair Accessibility Throughout The Moon Palace in Cancun
The Americans with Disabilities Act became law here in the United States in 1990. According to the website, www.ada.gov, “The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public.” Essentially, this helps individuals with disabilities live, work, and play in both public and private places that are open to the general public. Like, for example, resorts such as the Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico.
As I walked around the property of the Moon Palace, I began to notice all of the wheelchair signs, ramps, and accommodations. From the grounds of the hotel, I could see ramps clearly marked next to stairs leading up to the entertainment areas. From the deck of the pool, I saw wheelchair ramps and signs leading up to one of the restaurants, La Gondola. From the deck heading towards the beach area, I could see ramps leading down to the sand and VIP areas. All clearly marked and easy to identify and easy to navigate to and from places.
At the Moon Palace, we had free hotel to hotel transfers within the Palace Resorts family of hotels. In Cancun, we had access to the Sun and Beach Palace resorts which were located north of the Moon Palace where Rachel and I stayed as well as Playacar Palace in Playa del Carmen, which was south of the Moon Palace. One morning, we decided to visit Playacar Palace and met a couple from New Jersey who were headed that way as well. This couple had been visiting the Palace Resorts for close to 15 years. The wife of the couple was in a wheelchair and I spoke to her about her experiences with the wheelchair accessibility of the Palace Resorts. She was very complimentary of the facilities, the hotel staff were very accommodating, and the front desk was also very accommodating in terms of which room they stayed in. The couple raved about the resort’s commitment to have beach and pool access for her and her disability. Hearing it firsthand, made me realize how important this was to not only this couple from NJ, but also the commitment to excellence by the Palace Resorts.
Rachel and I visited the Beach Palace on a separate day and again, the wheelchair accessibility of the pool area, the beach area, and the property was evident. We saw signs clearly marked and ramps being used by disabled guests going to and from the pool and beach area. Whether it was the Moon Palace, the Beach Palace, or Playacar Palace, guests with disabilities were given equal opportunities to enjoy the resort to the fullest.
