Every spring, the Wickford Little League opens their season with an opening day ceremony.  The North Kingstown Police Department lead the way through the village of Wickford.  Fans, parents, friends line the streets and cheer on the massive parade of kids, parents, coaches.  The kids in the parade, most of them dressed in their baseball uniforms, are the stars – the young sluggers and fireballers who will wow us all spring, summer, and into fall.  The Wickford Little League parade encompasses the small town feel that make so many of us proud to call North Kingstown – HOME.

The parade continues up to Wilson Park, the home field of Wickford Little League.  At the park, there are a number of ceremonies that take place on the field.  Photo opportunities are abound.  The national anthem is sung.  Each year, a local Wickford Little League supporter or former player or North Kingstown resident is honored. With this honor, they have the opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch, which starts a huge cheer and applause from the ballplayers, coaches, and families attending.  After a long winter, it is time to lace up those cleats, throw on some eye black, tuck those shirts in, and yes, PLAY BALL!!!
