The Young Athletes Program – A Special Olympics Program Focused on Fun
The Young Athletes Program was created in Rhode Island, to meet the physical and developmental needs of children, ages 2 ½ to 7, in the areas of physical activity and play, with an emphasis on sports skill development. The activities presented in the program are designed to develop the fundamental prerequisite skills to prepare athletes for future participation in sports.
The Young Athletes Program offers families the opportunity to share in the success of their future athlete. It provides an experience that will lead to an appreciation of fitness and sport for the whole family. Inclusive activities are encouraged to help promote social development. Most importantly, families will learn about the potential of their child through preparation for participation in sport.
Special Olympics North Kingstown will begin our spring Young Athletes program on Saturday, April 18 from 10:00 – 11:00 in the back gym at North Kingstown High School. Please note the schedule below, as we will be practicing on some Saturdays and some Sundays this year.Sunday practices will be held from 2:00 – 2:45 at the track at NKHS. We will work on skills such as running, throwing, kicking, rolling, hand-eye coordination, following direction/a leader, and many other skills. As always, we welcome new athletes if you know anyone else who may like to have their child participate. Also, please be sure to check our website www.sonk.org for any additional information (especially the URI Summer Games) and the calendar.

The RIBBE is The Rhode Island Baseball Experience. It is promoting the game of baseball here in the great state of Rhode Island for the entire baseball world to see. The RIBBE is positive stories, photos, videos, and responsible social media posts. The RIBBE is an information resource for families looking for an AAU team or a summer camp or a great place to buy a first baseman’s mitt. The RIBBE is a network of coaches, tournament directors, parents, leagues, and baseball junkies whose passion of the game of baseball is unquestioned. I believe that providing expert analysis, information and directions to ballfields, and coaching advice from some of the top RI baseball minds will help promote the game of baseball here in RI to a whole new level.
